The Café Rouge story – so far

1989

Roger Myers and Karen Jones start the story in Richmond. They open their first bistro, Café Bleu, before changing its name to Café Rouge.

1992

Café Rouge formed part of Pelican Group.

1996

Pelican Group was purchased by Whitbread which started a bright future of 100 restaurants of Cafe Rouge. These restaurants then became a regular hangout for Bridget and friends in ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’, the novel that helped to make us a household name.

2002

Whitbread was purchased by Tragus. Café Rouge starts serving international jetsetters at Heathrow T1. This leads to more Café Rouge openings at airports.

2007

Café Rouge opens outlets in Center Parcs, the perfect holiday village setting for our style of bistro.

2011

Café Rouge Express opens at London’s busy Euston station so that different customers can enjoy our unique bistro experience. 

2012

Café Rouge wins the Mediterranean Casual Dining category at London’s prestigious MIDAS Awards.

2014

Café Rouge receives a £5 million investment that has transformed a third of the estate with further projections that will lead into 2015!
